Session 1
10.30-11.30am – Cooking Spatula
In this beginner’s workshop, we will start with a spatula blank that we will shape with edged tools, removing larger chips and then refining the shape by making smaller and smaller chips using a Sloyd knife and a hook knife. Near the end of the workshop we will cover finishing the piece by abrasive methods. You will learn how to coax the spatula from the timber. By the end of this workshop, you will have your own hand-carved spatula ready to take home and finish for use in the kitchen!
Session 2
12.00-1pm – Butter knife
In this beginner’s workshop, we will start with a birch butter spreader blank and learn a number of carving knife grips to craft a butter spreader chip by chip. Near the end of the workshop we will cover finishing the piece by abrasive methods. By the end of this workshop, you will have your own butter spreader ready to take home and finish for use in the kitchen!
